2nd Teen Accused in Death of Decorah Man Gets 15 Years on Lesser Charge

A 19-year old southwest Wisconsin man will spend up to 15 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter and assault.

Dalton Adam of Prairie du Chien was convicted by a Chickasaw County jury in the July 12th, 2018 beating death of 49-year old David Hansen of Decorah, and yesterday(Tues) Adam pleaded guilty to assault in connection with an incident at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds earlier that day.

Adam and his friend, 18-year old Jacob Seelinger, got into a confrontation with Hansen, who was dating Seelinger’s mother, and the two teens knocked Hansen down and continued hitting and kicking him while he was unconscious.  He never regained consciousness and died the following month of brain injuries sustained in the attack.

Both men were charged with first-degree murder, and while Seelinger was convicted by a Winneshiek County jury of second-degree murder this past July and sentenced to up to 50 years in prison,  Adam…whose trial was moved to Chickasaw County on a change of venue…was convicted November 1st of  a lesser charge, voluntary manslaughter.
